The Taipei American School Stateside Alumni Association was founded in November of 1987 by Class of 1974 alumnus Steve Eisenbaugh. Steve had attended a dinner in Washington DC held by Overseas Brats -- an organization for any American that attend schools overseas. At this dinner Steve learned that, unlike most DoD (Dept. of Defense) schools on military bases worldwide, most private schools -- like Taipei American -- had no established alumni associations. Consequently, most had very little record, if any, of where their alumni had scattered to upon graduation.
Based on that Steve decided to start some vehicle for finding T.A.S. alumni beginning the process with an old and tattered address book with listings of about a dozen friends from his time there. Over the past 15 years that database, focusing on Class years after 1968, has grown to over 1500 listings of alumni and former faculty! The group held their first major reunion in 1990 in St. Louis and there have been events since then in Dallas TX, Breckinridge CO, Chicago, and Long Beach CA. Around the same time as Steve began his efforts a core group of alumni from the late 1950s and early 1960s, the first years of our school's existence, began to organize in efforts to find classmates from their years at T.A.S.. A central figure of this group is Caroll Linn Williams ('61). Caroll realized the need for a communications source to help spread the word and find friends and classmates. She took it upon herself to publish a newsletter of information for those "Early Years" and called it "Tiger Tales". The "Early Years" generation held their first major reunion in 1988 and there have been several since then.
